Collingwood Residence

This project involved the design of a new family cottage on the shores of Nottawasaga Bay in Collingwood, Ontario. Close to the ski hills of the Blue Mountains, the vision was to create a spacious family retreat that offers comfort and joy throughout all four seasons.

Thoughtfully designed to harmonize with the scale and character of its neighboring homes, the cottage seamlessly integrates into its context while boldly reimagining the conventional ski chalet. Rooted in a modern design language and refined detailing, it evolves the traditional farmhouse typology, balancing aesthetic sophistication with economic efficiency.

Priority was given to maximizing views of Georgian Bay, best enjoyed from the expansive ground floor. This light-filled space serves as the heart of the home, where the family gathers in an open-concept kitchen, dining, and living area. Upstairs, a series of bedrooms provides private, comfortable accommodations.

The design achieves a balance between functionality and warmth. The main entrance is discreetly tucked away, creating a sense of privacy while maintaining a welcoming feel. A generously sized mudroom, seamlessly connected to the two-car garage, ensures practicality for ski gear and outdoor equipment. The lower level also includes the master suite, additional bedrooms, and a sauna, with direct access to an outdoor deck—perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes or swimming in the bay.
