Bookend, Queen West

This transformation of an early 20th-century worker’s cottage in downtown Toronto blends historical reverence with modern urban living. Located at the end of a townhouse block, the design turns the corner with elegance, drawing natural light from multiple angles to create a striking “bookend” presence.

A sleek rear addition in grey brick expands the home, offering a contemporary kitchen, guest bedroom, and a light-filled breakfast nook on the main floor, with an upper-level living space for the primary suite. A warm, wood-clad volume integrates additional private spaces, including a home office, laundry, and en-suite bedroom, balancing natural materials with functional design.

The original brick façade was preserved, while the interior was reimagined with open, inviting spaces ideal for entertaining. A secondary basement suite adds flexibility, while a rooftop deck offers an urban retreat with garden views and a hot tub.

This project seamlessly marries Toronto’s architectural heritage with a forward-thinking vision for vibrant downtown living.
