Annex Renovation

This project reimagines a historic duplex in Toronto’s Annex neighborhood, thoughtfully renovated to meet the evolving needs of its two owners—one with an expanding family seeking greater living space, improved accessibility, and a stronger connection to the outdoors.

The design introduces a new, more accessible front entrance that seamlessly serves both units. At the back, the outdated Victorian exterior and a 1940s rear addition are re-envisioned and transformed. The result is a modern, light-filled extension that opens generously to the rear yard, blending contemporary function with the character of this storied home.

In exploring exterior aesthetics, we utilized A.I. to experiment with a range of cladding options, enabling a dynamic approach to materials that honors the home’s legacy while embracing modernity.
